What “hairy” actually is

Monofilament polypropylene floats toward the paste. On a broom or light float it usually disappears into the texture. On a tight steel trowel, stamp, or polish, filaments can show as light whiskers. Burning them off or shaving after cure is common. Preventing them is better.

• Do not overdose “to be safe.” Extra fiber makes extra surface.
• Add the toss-in bag early and give the drum time.
• Keep a creamy paste — a dry mix will not close over the fiber.
• For decorative color work, plan the finish before you pick the fiber.

What to specify instead

If the slab is the architecture — stamped, polished, or integrally colored and hard-troweled — talk to us before you default to 12 mm PP.

• PP micro — shrinkage control on standard slabs, stucco, and broom finishes.
• AR glass — thin architectural sections and GFRC. It takes color well.
• TW50 — post-crack toughness. It is a longer fiber; not a decorative-first choice.
• Color + fiber — dose fiber first, then oxide. Mix until the shade is even.

None of these replace designed rebar. Secondary reinforcement is still secondary.
